Why does the Compatibility Information for the Blitzsafe BMWMLINKV1DDSP state:
  • Will NOT work with the Alpine-made factory CD changer.
... but the interface WILL work with the Alpine CHAS634 MP3 changer?

Is it because the Alpine-made '00 OEM DSP changer connects via a coax (SPDIF) cable
while the CHAS634 connects via a 6-pin connector?

The question arises because an interface is required to adapt a late-model BMW changer
to replace the OEM changer in a 2000 E39 equipped with Business Radio, DSP and the
SPDIF coax cable.

Here is the '00 OEM connector housing resting on top of the back of
the late-model BMW changer.

Both have 3-pin and 6-pin receptacles, but only the '00 OEM unit on top has
the coax (SPDIF) connector on the left side.

These are the OEM cables

The late-model BMW changer has a lable that appears to indicate the I-Bus protocol

Would the Blitzsafe BMWMLINKV1DDSP successfully interface between the late-model BMW changer and the '00 E39
BusinessRadio/DSP components?

The main reason that the Blitzsafe BMWMLINKV1DDSP will not work with the factory CD changer is that the Alpine-made BMW CD changer and the Alpine after market CD changer are not the same. They are electronically different and the Blitzsafe BMWMLINKV1DDSP CD changer interface is designed to work with the Alpine after market CD changers. Therefore, the Blitzsafe BMWMLINKV1DDSP interface will not work with the late-model BMW changer or any other BMW factory CD changer.

Thanks for the explanation.
  • Is there perhaps another variation of the Blitz interface that would adapt
the late BMW changer to the '00 E39 DSP components? I've expended a sum
on it which I am reluctant to walk away from.
  • Is there any prospect that the boards and the SPDIF connector within the
'00 housing might be adapted to the late changer thus enabling it to be
connected via the coax cable (SPDIF) to the '00 DSP components?
.

No other more suitable Blitzsafe interfaces? Nor prospects for
adapting the original SPDIF board to the updated changer?

It has nothing to do with the connectors. The CD changers are different. There isn't any off-the-shelf CD changer interface made by any Interface manufacturer that will do what you want it to do. It is certainly possible, but highly improbable that a modification could be made to an existing interface in order to make it fit your purpose.
